National GIS DAY Celebrations
2001
PAGG celebrated its first GIS Day and week in November 2001. As
the Associate Sponsor PAGG’s Founding Members Ms. Shantelle
Lopez and Ms. Carolann Albury along with a local government agency
reached out to over 200 students, teachers and professionals to
showcase real world applications of this extraordinary technology.
The main theme was on GIS and how Geography matters. The Program
comprised a variety of activities to include a display of posters,
A Geography Game Arcade, various GIS power point presentations and
a GIS demonstration using ESRI mapping software and Bahamas data
compliments of The Bahamas Environment Science & Technology
Commission.
All activities allowed participants to see and experience first
hand GIS technology and its extensive applications and benefits
while students were able to also test their skills on their knowledge
of Geography of the World.
