National GIS DAY Celebrations
2002 – Bahamas Boy Scout Association
PAGG celebrated GIS Day 2002, November 23rd with the Bahamas Boy
Scouts Association.
Scouts looked on with excitement as PAGG members Ms. Shantelle
Lopez, Ms. Carolann Albury and Dr. Marlene Jackson delivered a glimpse
of GIS Technology through discussions and a GIS Presentation, using
Arc Explorer software and again using Bahamas GIS data provided
by the Bahamas Environment Science & Technology Commission.
Scouts learnt the basics about GIS – that it allows users
to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze and visualize
a diverse range of geographically referenced information/data. They
learnt that the collection maintenance, availability and accessibility
of accurate up-to-date geo-spatial data is essential for numerous
applications and planning analysis.
Executive members, Mr. Stephen Cooper and Mr. Robert Bartlett of
the Boy Scout Association and scouts were pleased to have been chosen
to celebrate GIS DAY 2002 and hope to be using the technology in
the future
